With Christmas rapidly approaching it is time to start thinking about what gifts to give. Inevitably some people are easier to buy for than others, with the difficult recipients usually fitting certain profiles. The elderly can be tough because they often have most things. The other really tough group are teenagers: they are highly fashion conscious and brand sensitive, they have opinions on almost everything and they tend to think that they know best about most things. So where to start when it comes to presents for these young adults? It is not easy, and it is often thankless, but here are a few ideas for you to put to the test.

Books are not as popular as they once were now that Kindles and eReaders are so common, but magazines still work. Teenagers, o matter their gender, will be passionate about something. It might be fashion or music or cars or a specific sport. Whatever it is that sparks their interest there is almost certain to be a magazine that covers the topic. But don’t just get any magazine, splash out on something that is fancy and imported and which they cannot easily find on the shelf at the local supermarket. It is bound to leave you a hero.

Mobile phones are winners

Teenagers love gadgets, and nothing is more well received than the latest cell phone or accessory. It doesn’t take a scientist to know that, given half a chance, teenagers are glued to their phones, playing games, talking to mates or posting updates on social media. So, if you want to be the winner at Christmas do no more than type something like ‘Samsung S8 plus case online’ into a browser and place an order. Teenagers love their phone and give something to protect their much loved gadget. Shopping will never be easier!

If mobile phones are not your idea of a good gift, look at other items, that might be cheaper, in the technology space. Things like drones and cameras are great fun and entertainment and will keep the recipient entertained for hours. Drones are not nearly as expensive as they used to be and these days the variety of size, functionality and cost is enormous.

For a long time, it was said that vouchers were thoughtless gifts. In some instances, this may be true, but when it comes to young adults, vouchers are actually very popular. A voucher is essentially a gift of choice and independence, especially when it is for a store they would not ordinarily shop at. Teenagers are all about pushing the boundaries and establishing an identity that is separate from their parents. So, the opportunity for them to go and buy clothes is generally welcomed. And you can be sure that whatever it is that they buy, it will be different to what you would have purchased.

Board games

Board games are back in fashion and they are very popular. We are not talking Monopoly and Cluedo here we are talking things like Settlers of Catan or Cards Against Humanity. There’s a whole new generation of games available and teenagers love to get together and plan them. Do a little research as to what they like and go shopping – you will be amazed at the options that are out there to chose from.
